We’re proud to announce that Seacourt has officially become one of the world’s first printers to go Beyond Carbon Neutral in its impact on the environment. In this latest landmark in our strategy to become truly sustainable, ClimateCare has certified Seacourt as having offset its entire operational footprint - plus an extra 10%.
The ClimateCare certification comes hot on the heels of the EMAS Award we received in May, which makes us Europe’s leading SME for business sustainability. And it adds to our three Queen’s Awards for innovations in sustainability.
Our not-so-small steps ...
The leap to go Beyond Carbon Neutral was achieved with these key strategic steps:
We reduced It has taken us over 20 years of hard work to minimise our environmental impact in every way possible We have transformed our operation, and invested in technology along the way. As a result, we have eliminated the use of water and harmful chemicals in our printing processes and inks, we use only FSC Certified recycled paper, we are a zero waste operation and are completely powered by renewable energy.
We measured We worked with environmental specialist Empathy Sustainability to carry out stringent verification of our carbon footprint throughout our entire operation. Empathy Sustainability literally ‘walked our supply chain,’ to measure absolutely everything that has an environmental impact: our paper supplies, printing processes, transport methods ... even the ways in which our employees travel to work in their daily commute.
We went a step further To ensure we are going even further than meeting our carbon responsibilities, we decided to offset our entire footprint plus 10% by investing in a widely recgonised ClimateCare programme delivering social, economic and environmental benefits. Through this leading UN-backed project in Brazil, we are supporting a project, at the mouth of the Amazon, which is helping to conserve 86,000 hectares of forest and to regenerate a further 1,200 hectares of deforested land.
So, having spent decades of work transforming our business from a resource-intensive, polluting printer to one that has significantly reduced impact on the environment, we are making a leap forward, to ensure that the impact of printed communications is Beyond Carbon Neutral.
